New version of WMP plug-in

If you have installed the Windows Media Player plug-in, you may be interested to know that there is a new version available for download now from Music > Downloads. Please keep your plug-in up-to-date to get the most out of the di tracks on the site.

Many new tracks coming

We've had a few questions about when there will be new tracks on the site. Well, we have a lot of tracks in production which will see the light of day very soon. As you can imagine, dealing with major labels takes a little time - but we will hopefully have some more very big names on the site soon. In addition, we are also talking to independent labels and artists such as Bonzai in Belgium and DJ Ariwave. If you are an artist or work for a record label and would like to see yourself on YourSpins, please email us on talk2us@yourspins.com

Are you using the WMP plug-in?

If you are using a PC, you really should check out the Windows Media Player plug-in for .di tracks. The online mixers on YourSpins are great (well, we would say that!) but there are several major advantages to using the WMP plug-in.
The plug-in offers all the music personalisation functions of the online mixers, but also offer enhanced audio quality & arrangement tools. Since the plug-in uses downloadable .di tracks, you can also make your mixes offline and most tracks even allow you to save your creations as an mp3 file. For free! How good is that?!

We will be making a plugin for Quicktime soon for all you Mac-heads out there (including me) - but in the meantime, Windows users should go here and start downloading .di tracks from the site!

Rainmaker making waves

Congratulations to YS member lucianoerasure! His group, The Rainmaker (along with fellow band member Luiz Carlos Rangel) have just released their new track 'One Day' to widespread critical acclaim in their native Brazil. A pre-release version on interent site palcomp3, reached number 1 on its first day of release.

Good news for all you Rainmaker fans on YourSpins (there are currently 27 mixes of 'Lonely') - there will be a second track from the Brazil duo very soon "My Heart, My Soul".

Felicitações!!

Get suggestive with us!

Hi all. The developers of YourSpins are all at a meeting right now in Budapest, discussing what's next for the site. We have been reading the forum on YourSpins as a starting point for these discussions, so if you wanna see some crazy new functionality over the next few weeks, please get bizzy in the forum.

Change is a-coming

It is always the kiss of death on any deadline to announce it in advance - but here's hoping this is the exception! As of next week you will see some nice changes to YourSpins.

Firstly we will be doing away with the 'front' page where you need to log-in. Our URL will direct you to the homepage of YourSpins directly, where you can log-in there if necessary.

Secondly, we will be helping artists promote themselves through YourSpins with special artist pages. Artists will have special log-in details to allow them to customize their page on YourSpins. This will mean mixes from YS, naturally, but also regular songs, video, messageboard, bio's and news feeds.
[Disclaimer: We might release some of this functionality gradually!]

Finally, you will soon be able to send your YS homepage URL to your friends, and they will be able to browse your mixes (and indeed all of YS) without having to log-in. Yes, browsers - in both senses of the word - will be welcome at last.

So, have we destroyed our chances of doing this by blogging about it? Tune in next week to find out!

Some improvements...

OK - so we listened to you and made some changes to the functionality of YourSpins. Now you can leave a message on anyone's homepage. The homepage owner can delete any message though. Also, you can now delete or edit any comments you make on someone elses page.

We also fixed a bunch of annoying little things, but there are probably some we missed. Keep us informed in the forum please.

Things we know still need attention - chat and 'view all messages'. We'll get there though!

New mini-players for blogs

We have gone ahead and added some much-requested functionality to the mini-players that users can embed into their homepage or blogs. Artsit and track name are displayed now, along with the mixer's username. Also, we have a ringtone facility in there for ringtones to be made and ordered from anywhere the mini-players are hosted.

However the new players are slightly larger than the older ones and so older embedded mini-players may look like they have had their edges cut-off. Sorry about that. We are still in beta, so this is the best time to do these changes - but if you already have a mini-player on your site, you may want to upgrade it to the new one. We'll try not to mess about with it too much after this!

Forum fun

I've ticked a box on the forum admin page which says 'Allow user to mess about with the forum appearance'. This means the forum can look how you would like it to look (within the limits of the options supplied at least!)

In forum, go to My Profile > Edit Profile and under Forum Settings, select your prefered theme. I am using ASPNet and it is cool. Fits in with our colour scheme too. You might prefer the camoflauge or purple options though!

Invitation emails

As of tomorrow we will have mailed hundreds of people who had signed-up for beta-testing. If you were expecting a mail and haven't received one, check your spam filters. We have had a lot of bounced emails. Also, some wrongly-typed email addresses mean that you might not have that mail by now. Please enter your email address again on yourspins.com if you think this might be the case.

Cheers,
Chris

Welcome all!

Since we opened our doors 24 hours ago (to a select few) we have had lots of questions about how to get the most out of the site. Well, I will update the FAQs soon, but in the meantime, here is a quick overview of the questions - with answers! We are helpful like that.

- How do I make a mix?

Go here and click on Remix Now - that is the simplest way.

- How do I chat to someone?

You must be their friend and they must be yours. Add them to your friends list and then send them an email/PM asking them to accept. We will refine this process soon.

- How do I leave a message on someone's homepage?

Same as above - you need to be mutual friends.

- How do I leave a comment?
On the mixpage, anyone can leave a comment.

Any more questions? Mail them to us at talk2us@yourspins.com and we'll get back to you.

In the meantime, come join the party by signing-up and registering.
