Shahrokh Sound of K on YourSpins

Remix "Leave Your Hat On"

Does any Iranian participate in the global dance circus?
Yep, they do: Deep Dish, Ali Dubfire and Shahrokh.
Born into the deep west impacted Shah-era, he passed his high school diploma in Teheran
and moved to Germany after the regime fall.
„Persians are melancholic people“, says Shahrokh, „with a huge appreciation for poetic.“
„His congenius partner Andreas Köhler looks back on long lasting stays as well.
But what does it have in common with House music?

The persian folk music, is based on house tempo from 120 to 126 bpm, even though persian folk music is more polyrhythmical, the melancholic melodies lord over these tempi.
The ethnic dances are very similar to Jackin – hydraulic Headnodding down to top dancing – quite contrary to the prevalent Rockin´ or Headnodding in the west (down top movements)
In the music of Shahrokh the Cello or pads displace the melancholic component.
And when you remember the original house of the late 80s/ early 90s you´ll find definitely plenty of melancholic. You just have to ask Robert Owens.

Since 1995 Shahrokh applies himself to the production of House Music furthermore he´s the most important interpreter for house and clubmusik events, first of all the best known DJ in Karlsruhe.
Karlsruhe is famous for its art college „center for art and mediatechnology“ (short ZKM).
Shahrokh´s organisations of the events for and with ZKM are such numerously –
it would go beyound the scope of listing them all right now.
In the context of these events Shahrokh collaborated with the following persons as well: Prof. Peter Weibel, Luigi Colani, Jose Wagna Garcia, Carl Craig, Hans Nieswandt.

His own Clubs - at first „Terra Cotta“, later „Mood Lounge“- enjoy cult status already.
There are house CD compilations fort he Mood Lounge, beside Shahrokh his closer friends Amé (Christian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann) are quasi Resident DJs there.
Apart from that the worldwide who is who of House Music shaked hands at the Moodlounge and Sahahrokh parties. There´s no big name who didn´t played there.
Everyone who met Shahrokh knows he´s a party and rave-animal from the very beginning –
somebody who can tell you spacy sories and as DJ and Clupper he experienced alomst everything

Shahrokh released his debut EP„Deff Punch / Roya“on Black Flame in 1997.
One year later follows „Phunk Communication“on Caus-N’-ff-ct - in the same year the english Label Miss Moneypeney’s licensed the tune exlusive.

You´ll find the follower „Yo Yomma“ (one more time for Caus-N’-ff-ct) on the soundtrack of Wolfgang Peterson’s Blockbuster „Stargate“. Beyond Shahrokh did productions and remixes for Caus-N’-ff-ct,
cover versions of Donna Summer´s „Hot Stuff“ and „Bad Girls and one remix for Gloria Gaynor „Last Night“fort he project „DJ Empire - A Tribute To Giorgio Moroder“ (Caus-N’-ff-ct/BMG Ariola)

His partner Andreas Köhler studied at the music academy in Basel and Karlsruhe cello and piano
is touring regularly worldwide with the SWR (one of the biggest german TV and Radio station).
Since 1999 Andreas Köhler plans and leads the musicworkshops at the ZKM – in these workshops he focus the computer as an instrument.

Beside the classical music he has always been much into electronic music,
he runs his own sound studio – where emerged releases for Harthouse, Glasgow Underground or
F-Communications (the label of Laurent Garnier).

After the first collective release on Compost Records Shahrokh and Sound Of K melt into the project
Shahrokh Sound Of K. His track „Owlflight“ got massive support from keyplayers like Rainer Trüby, Peter Kruder, Atjazz, Sasse and Àme.

The most component and matter that is nearest to their hearts is to bring back musical basic structures, arrangements, live elements and a little bit poetry to Housemusic.

A lot of the tracks result from jamming and free playing with the musical elements - contrary to the usual Techno preprogram of the beat and bassline.

The album is for Shahrokh Sound Of K. the Dripping Point, the distillate of large influences like
Garage, Afro, House, Jazz and Discofunk.

Dripping Point includes vocal features by „the voice of house“ Robert Owens, Jamie Lyod (known from his solo projects on Future Classic), the swedish female singer Siri Svegler (collaboration with the top jazz pianist, conductor and arrangeur Christian Vaughan; sponsorship by Volkswagen Soundfoundation for Siri’s own songs – under the patronage of Seal as her goodfather) and Toyin Taylor.

You can look up to Shahrokh Sound of K live since 2006 –
there are two live versions: Laptop, Keyboard and E-Cello, depending on the amount of the gig
will be added bass, live percussion, vocalisten and horns..
